About this tune
The jig is named for Adam Tobin, a Kilkenny man whom Francis O'Neill described as "equally proficient as a piper or fiddler." O'Neill had the tune from Chicago fiddler James Kennedy and printed it in his 1903 collection, Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies, as "Tobin's Favorite" — the title that has remained the most common ever since. Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman recorded it as "Tobin's Fancy" in New York in 1927, and it remains one of the more commonly played jigs at sessions.
