Gallagher’s Frolics

Better known now simply as "Gallagher's Frolics," this jig is older than the name it carries. It appears in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "Golliher's Frolic," two decades before Francis O'Neill printed it as "O'Gallagher's Frolics" in his Music of Ireland (1903). O'Neill may have reworked the title to honour Charles O'Gallagher, a piper who, like O'Neill himself, belonged to Chicago's Irish Music Club at the turn of the century.
