Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 30, 2026
I’m Blayne Chastain, based in Greeley, Colorado, USA, and I run blaynechastain.com. This policy explains what personal information I collect, why, and what you can do about it. Questions about your data? Please get in touch through my contact form.
What I collect
- Your account — your email address (needed to sign you in), and optionally your first name and which instrument you play. You can sign in with a 6-digit code I email you, so a password is optional; if you set one, I store it securely hashed.
- Email preferences— whether you’ve opted in to occasional emails from me, and the date and wording you agreed to.
- Payments — if you buy a course, payment is handled by Stripe. I never see or store your full card details; I keep a Stripe customer reference and a record of what you have access to.
- Things you post — comments you leave on lessons, tied to your account.
- Technical information— basic logs (e.g. IP address, browser, pages viewed) and an essential cookie that keeps you signed in. I don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Why I use it, and my legal basis
- To create your account, sign you in, and give you the courses you’ve signed up for or bought — necessary for my contract with you.
- To email you sign-in codes and service messages (receipts, “your course is ready”) — necessary for my contract with you. These aren’t marketing and you can’t opt out of them while you have an account.
- To process payments and keep tax and transaction records — contract and legal obligation.
- To show your comments and run the community — my legitimate interest in operating the site.
- To send occasional updates and new-lesson notes — only if you opt in (consent). You can unsubscribe any time, from any such email.
- To keep the site secure and working, and to understand how it’s used — my legitimate interests, balanced against your rights.
Who I share it with
I don’t sell your personal information, and I don’t share it for advertising. I do use trusted service providers who process data on my behalf:
- Stripe — payment processing
- YouTube (Google)— some free lessons are embedded YouTube videos, which may set YouTube’s own cookies when a video loads
- Infrastructure providers for website hosting, database hosting, email delivery, and video and file storage
Each only handles the data needed to do its job.
Where your data goes
These providers are based in the United States. If you’re in the UK, EU, or EEA, your information may be transferred there, protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an approved adequacy decision.
How long I keep it
I keep your account information for as long as you have an account, and for a reasonable period afterward. Payment and tax records are kept for 7 years, as required by law. Comments remain until you or I delete them. Consent records are kept as proof for as long as relevant.
Your rights
You can ask me to see, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to limit or object to how I use it, and to withdraw consent for marketing at any time. To do any of these, use my contact form — or just hit unsubscribe in any update email.
If you’re in California, you have the right to know what I collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. I do notsell or “share” (for cross-context advertising) your personal information.
Children
The site isn’t directed at children under 16, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given me data, let me knowand I’ll remove it.
Changes
I’ll update this policy as the site evolves and revise the date at the top. Significant changes that affect how I use your data will be brought to your attention before they take effect.
Complaints
If you have concerns, please contact mefirst. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU/EEA, your local supervisory authority.
