Irish Fiddle with Natalie Padilla

Structured across four levels ranging from complete beginner through advanced traditional playing, the courses are designed to meet students wherever they currently are with the instrument. Players entirely new to the fiddle begin with the fundamentals of holding the instrument, tuning, bow control, left-hand form, scales, posture, and tone production, while later levels move gradually into ornamentation, phrasing, stylistic bowing, shifting, uncommon keys, and more advanced traditional repertoire.

Natalie's teaching places strong emphasis on learning by ear from the very beginning, helping students develop not only technique, but also the listening skills and stylistic understanding that give Irish traditional fiddle music its character. Throughout the courses, traditional tunes are taught progressively, with increasing attention given to ornamentation, rhythmic feel, phrasing, and musical expression as students advance through each level.

The four levels together include more than thirty sections and nearly nine hours of instruction. Early levels focus on building solid physical habits and confidence with the instrument, while later levels move into more advanced tune learning and stylistic playing through repertoire such as Out on the Ocean, Eddie Kelly's, The Butterfly, Martin Wynne's, The Banks, Lord Gordon's, The Mathematician, and Garrett Barry's.
