About this tune
Several distinct tunes share the title "Munster Buttermilk," and the one taught here is a two-part setting in G, not the three-part tune in D that circulates under the same name. This version carries a strong Sliabh Luachra association: Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford recorded it on the Claddagh album The Star Above the Garter, and the Sliabh Luachra accordion player Johnny O'Leary played it as well. It reached print on both sides of the Atlantic, turning up in Luke O'Malley's collection (1976) and in Miller and Perron's New England Fiddler's Repertoire (1983).
