About this tune
Galway flute player Vincent Broderick (1920–2008) composed this jig. The story behind the name has him and a companion cycling home one night from playing out: they passed a manor house on a hill loud with dancing, music and laughter, stopped to listen, then went back the next day to find only old ruins where it had stood. Broderick published it as "The Haunted House" in The Turoe Stone, his 1990 collection of traditional flute solos. It also travels under names like Drumshanbo and The Old Leitrim. Four Men and a Dog recorded it on Barking Mad, and flute player Catherine McEvoy is among those who have recorded it.
