About this tune
Despite the Galway place-name, "The Carraroe" belongs to a cross-border family of jigs descended from the Scottish "Blue Bonnets over the Border." The Traditional Tune Archive groups it with "Blue Bonnets Jig" and "Scotsman over the Border" — different titles for what is essentially the one tune. In Ireland it is tied to the East Galway tradition and the Ballinakill players. Joe Cooley recorded it, and it later appeared on Patrick Street's self-titled debut and on Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill's "Live in Seattle."
