Give Me a Drink of Water

Two different slip jigs answer to the title "Give Us a Drink of Water," and they have long been muddled. The Bothy Band recorded one of them under that name, but it is really "The Swaggering Jig" — a titling the Traditional Tune Archive calls idiosyncratic to the band and probably a mistake on the album notes. The tune taught here is the other one, the genuine "Give Us a Drink of Water," an Irish slip jig in G that bears no relation to the Bothy Band's. It stays common in the session repertoire.
