About this tune

Known here as the "Wexford Hornpipe," this tune is catalogued on thesession.org under "Pretty Maggie Morrissey," one of several titles it has gathered. It has long been a favorite in uilleann piping, recorded early by Liam Walsh and Leo Rowsome. An untitled setting sits in Book 3 of the c. 1883 manuscripts of the Leitrim piper and fiddler Stephen Grier, and it reached print as a hornpipe in O'Neill's "Music of Ireland" (1903). The Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman recorded it, and Seán Ó Riada took it up with Ceoltóirí Chualann.
