About this tune
More than one reel answers to "Toss the Feathers," and the divide is worth keeping straight: one family sits in E minor and E Dorian, the other in D, and this lesson teaches the D (D Mixolydian) one. Its Irish names — "Craith na Cleití" and "Scaipeadh na gCleití" — carry the same picture of shaking or scattering feathers. The D setting is a staple of the session repertoire and the one that crossed into rock: Fairport Convention recorded it on Liege and Lief (1969), and The Corrs built an instrumental on it for Forgiven, Not Forgotten (1995).
