About this tune
"The Templehouse" is a Sligo reel that traces back to Scotland: it appears to derive from the strathspey "Struan Robertson's Rant," printed by Robert Bremner in 1757. The name points to Templehouse in County Sligo, and the reel stayed in Sligo hands on record — the fiddler James Morrison, a Sligo man, cut it with the piper Tom Ennis. It had surfaced earlier in print as "Evergreen Lasses," the title under which it appears in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (Boston, 1883), and it turns up two decades later in O'Neill's Music of Ireland.
