About this tune

The reel Blayne teaches as "The Sister's Reel" is more widely catalogued as "Mary McMahon," and it carries a clutch of other names besides — "Micho Russell's" among them, after the Doolin tin whistle player who kept it in play. It reached print early in Bulmer and Sharpley's Music from Ireland, vol. 2 (1974), and Breandán Breathnach later included it, untitled, in Ceol Rince na hÉireann.
