About this tune
Hanley's Tweed is one of more than a hundred tunes by the Tipperary accordion player Paddy O'Brien (1922–1991), who did much to establish the B/C style of button-box playing. The reel takes its name from a length of tweed O'Brien won as a prize from John Hanly & Co., the Nenagh woollen firm, while playing with the Ormond Céilí Band. It has stayed in steady circulation since, recorded by his daughter, the fiddler Eileen O'Brien, and by younger players such as Brian Finnegan.
