About this tune

Most players know this as "Tom Morrison's," the reel Kevin Burke and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill recorded on Portland (1982) ahead of the Beare Island Reel. It goes back further than that: the Galway flute player Tom Morrison (1889–1958), the "Dunmore Flash" from near Glenamaddy, recorded it in New York in 1927 as a schottische under the title "Sweet Flowers of Milltown." The melody is a variant of the "Off to California" family, which is why its opening turn can sound familiar. Morrison's 78 was later reissued on Topic's Irish Dance Music, and Conal Ó Gráda recorded it on The Top of Coom.
