About this tune

The title most players know, "Maid of Mt. Cisco," is a corruption of Mount Kisco, a town in Westchester County, New York. The "Cisco" spelling traces to its appearance in Breathnach's Ceol Rince na hÉireann, where Kisco loses its K because Irish has no such letter. The County Sligo fiddler Paddy Killoran made the reel famous when he recorded it for Decca in 1937, and is credited with composing it — flute player Jack Coen told the New York researcher Don Meade as much. Killoran named it for a friend, Ann Mulligan of Mt. Kisco.
