About this tune
Unlike most session reels, this one has a named composer. Jackie Coleman (1928–2001) was a flute and whistle player born in Sheffield to parents from Knicknahoo, near Gurteen in south Co. Sligo, and he wrote the tune in 1954. It also answers to "Farmer Moroney's." In D, it long ago settled into common session play, and turns up on recordings by John Carty and Brian McGrath ("The Cat That Ate the Candle") and by The Dubliners' fiddler John Sheahan, among many others.
