About this tune

Session players know this long jig by its English title, but it also carries an Irish name — "Máirseál na nIománaithe," the Hurler's March. It runs to four parts rather than the usual two, the opening turns in Mixolydian and the later ones moving into major. David Brody printed it in "The Fiddler's Fakebook" (1983) from a setting by the fiddler Kathleen Collins, who recorded the tune herself on "Traditional Music of Ireland."
