About this tune

This jig is best known as "Dermot Grogan's," after the button accordion and flute player Dermot Grogan (1958–2006) of Derrytavrane, Kilkelly, in northeast Mayo, though it travels just as often as "Pat Mahon's," with "Katy's Rambles" and "Spot the Wallop" among its other names. It's keyed in E Dorian, though some settings drop to E minor. Catherine McEvoy recorded it with Felix Dolan on Traditional Flute Music in the Sligo-Roscommon Style.
