About this tune
The Fiddler's Companion tentatively credits this B-minor reel to John McFadden — "perhaps composed by him" — a Mayo-born fiddler from Carrowmore, near Westport, who settled in Chicago and became one of the players Captain Francis O'Neill drew on for the collections he compiled there. The tune carries McFadden's name as an alternate title. Breathnach printed it in Ceol Rince na hÉireann III (1986), and it stays a well-known session reel, recorded by the Boys of the Lough and Cherish the Ladies among others.
