About this tune

Most players and tune books know this one as "Bill Collins'" or "Dan Collins' Father's," after Bill Collins, a musician from Gort, Co. Galway and father of Dan Collins of Shanachie Records. The title "The Boys of Ballymote" attached itself by accident: De Dannan recorded it as the untitled second tune in a set led by a separate melody called "The Hearty Boys of Ballymote," and the two have been confused ever since — the Traditional Tune Archive keeps them as distinct tunes. It's a double jig in 6/8.
