About this tune
One of a numbered set of reels composed by the Sligo fiddler Martin Wynne (d. 1998), who left Bunninadden for New York in 1948 after years in the dance halls of London. Wynne numbered his reels rather than naming them, and they spread well beyond the south-Sligo style that bred them. The tune also carries older titles: Belfast fiddler Seán Maguire recorded it as "The Burying Poteen," and it circulates as "Joan Coyne's," after a fiddler who learned it from the New York teacher John McGrath. Peter Horan and Fred Finn keep it close to home on Music of Sligo.
