About this tune

Most players know it by its session title, but in Munster the tune went by the name "Bogadh Faoi Shúsa." P.W. Joyce printed it under that title in his Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909), calling it a favourite Munster dance-tune and giving a setting he had from a Mr. Deasy by way of the Cork collector William Forde. It had already reached the wider repertoire through Francis O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1903). It's a long slip jig, and much of its character comes from the melody shifting between E minor and G major as the parts turn.
