About this tune
Almost everyone now calls this double jig the Kesh Jig, after the village of Kesh in County Fermanagh, though it has carried older titles too — among them "Kerrigan's Jig." That name points to Tom Kerrigan, the Longford-born piper and New York publican who hosted the Taylor brothers, the uilleann pipe makers, when they first emigrated from Ireland. The earliest sound recording dates to September 1916, when accordionist Ed Herborn and banjo player James Wheeler cut a close version as "The Rambler Jig," paired with The Maid Behind the Bar.
