About this tune
This reel is older than its best-known title: Stephen Grier copied it into his Leitrim manuscript around 1883, and it appears in Kerr's Merry Melodies marked only "Irish Reel." It found a lasting home in Sliabh Luachra, the Cork–Kerry border country, where the fiddle master Pádraig O'Keeffe and his pupil Denis Murphy played a distinctive setting; Murphy recorded it on Music from Sliabh Luachra. It also carries the Irish name Cois an Ghiorria.
