About this tune
Older than its best-known name, the reel was collected by George Petrie as "The Pullet and the Cock," and the Stanford-Petrie Complete Collection of 1905 carries it under that early title. "Drag Her Round the Road" nods to the bygone country custom of dancing at the crossroads. It also goes by "Andy McGann's #42 Bunratty," after the fiddler who recorded it with Paul Brady on It's a Hard Road to Travel; Cherish the Ladies later cut it as "The Pullet."
