Dancing Eyes

This jig is a composition of Seán Ryan (1919–1985), the Nenagh fiddler and whistler who took the Senior All-Ireland fiddle title in 1955 and 1956 and whose tunes have quietly settled into common session play. It reached print in Martin Mulvihill's 1st Collection (1986) and was later gathered into Brian Ryan's published selection of Ryan's compositions. Like many of his pieces it travels under folk-sounding alternates — "The Clamp of Turf" among them — that give little hint of a named composer, and it turns up across recordings from Gerry O'Connor's Journeyman onward.
