About this tune
Bruach na Carraige Báine — "the brink of the white rock" — is a Munster love song carried as a slow air. The melody is old: Edward Bunting noted it from a blind man at Westport in 1802, and George Petrie printed several settings in his 1855 collection. It also lies behind "Carolan's Cup," the harp piece long credited to Turlough O'Carolan; Donal O'Sullivan judged that Carolan at most reworked this existing folk air rather than composing it. Clannad recorded it on Fuaim, and Solas on The Hour Before Dawn.
